Gyeongju, October 30, 2025 – The Europe Today: President Lương Cường has proposed that Việtnam and the United States accelerate the conclusion of negotiations on a reciprocal trade agreement, based on mutual benefit and in accordance with the recently issued joint statement, while taking into account Việtnam’s specific conditions and the importance of bilateral relations.
The proposal was made during President Cường’s meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump at a special dinner in honour of State leaders attending the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in the Republic of Korea on Wednesday.
President Cường called for stronger cooperation between Việtnam and the United States in the fields of politics and diplomacy, economy and trade, science and technology, defence and security, people-to-people exchanges, and war legacy remediation. He affirmed that Việtnam welcomes the active and responsible contributions of the United States to peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific and Indian Ocean regions.
Both leaders expressed satisfaction with the positive outcomes achieved under the Việt Nam–U.S. Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and reaffirmed their determination to further deepen, substantiate, and sustainably develop bilateral relations in line with the interests of both countries. The two Presidents also emphasised their shared commitment to contributing to regional and global peace, cooperation, and sustainable development.
President Cường congratulated the United States on its achievements under President Trump’s leadership, commending his efforts to promote conflict resolution and restore peace in several regions worldwide. He further reiterated Việt Nam’s readiness to serve as a bridge and assist in seeking sustainable, law-based solutions to ongoing global conflicts.
President Trump reaffirmed that the United States attaches great importance to its Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Việt Nam, praising Việt Nam’s growing regional and international role as well as its strong efforts in reform, openness, integration, and innovation. He also welcomed Việt Nam’s increased import of U.S. goods.
The two leaders exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual concern, with President Trump reaffirming U.S. support for ASEAN centrality and appreciating Việt Nam’s contributions to regional and global affairs.
On behalf of Việt Nam’s senior leadership, President Cường extended an invitation to President Trump and the First Lady to pay an official visit to Việt Nam. President Trump expressed fond memories of his previous visits to Việt Nam in 2017 and 2019, conveyed his gratitude for the invitation, and confirmed that he would arrange to visit the country in the near future.
During the dinner, President Cường also held brief meetings with the Prime Ministers of Canada, Thailand, Singapore, Australia, and New Zealand. The leaders commended Việt Nam’s all-round development in recent years and its increasingly significant international role.
They agreed on the importance of further promoting substantive and comprehensive bilateral relations, as well as enhancing coordination and participation in multilateral mechanisms and forums, including APEC and ASEAN, to contribute to regional and global peace, cooperation, and sustainable development.
