Ankara, November 09, 2025 – The Europe Today: President of the Republic of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, has said that the liberation of Karabakh represents not only a victory for Azerbaijan but for the entire Turkic world.
Speaking to journalists accompanying him during his visit to Azerbaijan, President Erdoğan referred to his address at the military parade marking the fifth anniversary of the Victory in the Patriotic War. He emphasized that the positions of Ankara and Baku today best embody the principle of “One nation, two states,” noting that Türkiye openly supported the just struggle of the Azerbaijani people during the conflict.
The Turkish head of state underscored that relations between Türkiye and Azerbaijan—elevated to the level of alliance through the historic Shusha Declaration—are actively progressing across all sectors, including the implementation of joint projects. He stated that during his visit, he had the opportunity to meet with President Ilham Aliyev to discuss bilateral ties and regional developments.
Welcoming recent progress in the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, Erdoğan expressed satisfaction with the outcomes of the August meeting in Washington, remarking:
“After more than 30 years of instability, a window of opportunity has opened for peace and tranquility in the South Caucasus. The swift completion of the peace process will allow victorious Azerbaijan to become the architect of peace in the region.”
The Turkish leader reaffirmed that Türkiye continues to take steps toward normalizing relations with Armenia in coordination with Azerbaijan, stressing that any move violating Azerbaijan’s interests in this process would be unacceptable.
Highlighting Azerbaijan’s extensive reconstruction efforts in its liberated territories, President Erdoğan said:
“Under the leadership of my brother Ilham Aliyev, Azerbaijan is taking large-scale steps to rebuild the region. Roads and tunnels are being constructed, agricultural projects are advancing, and new residential buildings are being built. We are taking all necessary measures to contribute to these efforts.”
Praising Azerbaijan’s achievements under Ilham Aliyev’s leadership, Erdoğan stated:
“As someone who closely followed developments both during the presidency of the late Heydar Aliyev and under Ilham Aliyev, I am well aware of the progress achieved. I sincerely congratulate President Ilham Bey and his team.”
President Erdoğan concluded by congratulating the fraternal people of Azerbaijan on the occasion of Victory Day and State Flag Day, reaffirming Türkiye’s enduring solidarity with Azerbaijan.
