Chinese Ambassador Calls for Constructive U.S.-China Relations

Washington, April 21, 2024, The Europe Today: During the opening ceremony of the Harvard Kennedy School China Conference 2024 on Saturday, Chinese Ambassador to the United States, Xie Feng, urged the United States to collaborate with China in navigating the challenges of the new era based on principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation.

Ambassador Xie emphasized China’s commitment to achieving Chinese modernization domestically while fostering a community with a shared future internationally. He stressed the importance of a stable China-U.S. relationship to support these goals, citing the necessity of a peaceful international environment.

Xie Feng outlined five key points for enhancing China-U.S. relations, emphasizing the importance of developing mutual understanding, effectively managing disagreements, promoting mutually beneficial cooperation, assuming responsibilities as major countries, and encouraging people-to-people exchanges.

While acknowledging that the China-U.S. relationship cannot return to the past, Ambassador Xie expressed optimism about jointly creating a brighter future. He highlighted the role of youth in fostering vitality, creativity, and proactive engagement in shaping the relationship between the two countries.

During the conference, attended by over 300 participants including representatives from politics, business, academia, Harvard University faculty and students, and Chinese students studying in the United States, Xie encouraged American youth to visit China, contribute ideas on improving bilateral relations, and promote exchanges and cooperation to foster enduring peace and prosperity for both nations.

Ambassador Xie’s remarks underscored China’s willingness to work collaboratively with the United States to implement important consensus reached between the leaders of both countries and steer the relationship toward sound, stable, and sustainable development, ultimately realizing the “San Francisco Vision” for the benefit of both nations and the global community.
