Turkmenistan-EU Cooperation Forum Set to Forge Pathways for Future Collaboration

Ashgabat, May 12, 2024, The Europe Today: The forum titled “30 years of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the European Union: working together for the future” is poised to convene in Ashgabat on May 14, marking a significant milestone in the enduring partnership between the two entities. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs R. Meredov announced this development during a Government meeting held on Friday, underscoring the forum’s importance in shaping the trajectory of bilateral relations.

A focal point of the forum will be the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan, the State Concern “Turkmengas,” and the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ). This agreement will lay the groundwork for the implementation of the project “Measures and political dialogue to combat climate change in 2024–2028,” signaling a commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.

Thematic sessions slated for the forum will cover a diverse range of topics, including the development of inter-parliamentary relations between Turkmenistan and the EU, cooperation in security, trade, education, and green energy. Participants will engage in constructive dialogues aimed at identifying synergies and fostering collaboration across various sectors.

A highlight of the event will be a press conference showcasing new projects earmarked for joint implementation with the European Union. These initiatives are expected to bolster bilateral cooperation and contribute to the socioeconomic development of Turkmenistan.

Concurrently, an exhibition spotlighting the activities of the European Union in Turkmenistan will be held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The exhibition will offer insights into the EU’s multifaceted engagement in the country, highlighting initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable development, enhancing trade ties, and fostering cultural exchange.
