China’s Ministry of Commerce Adds Companies to Unreliable Entities List Over Arms Sales to Taiwan

Beijing, May 20, 2024, The Europe Today: China’s Ministry of Commerce announced on Monday the inclusion of several companies on its unreliable entities list due to their involvement in arms sales to Taiwan. The companies affected include General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, General Dynamics Land Systems, and Boeing Defense, Space & Security.

These companies will face severe restrictions, including a ban on participating in China-related import or export activities and the prohibition of new investments within China. Additionally, senior executives from these firms will be barred from entering China, and their work permits, visitor statuses, and residential permits will be revoked. Any related applications they submit will also be denied, according to the ministry’s statement.

The Ministry of Commerce emphasized that these measures are being taken to protect China’s national sovereignty, security, and developmental interests. “Such measures are being taken to safeguard China’s national sovereignty, security, and development interests,” the ministry said.

Furthermore, the ministry highlighted that Caplugs, a U.S. company, has been found to circumvent the regulations of the unreliable entities list by transferring goods purchased from China to the listed entities. The ministry has urged Caplugs to immediately cease such practices and ensure that all relevant goods, technologies, and services purchased from China are not transferred to the unreliable entities. Caplugs is also required to submit relevant evidentiary material to the office of the unreliable entities list as per the established working mechanism.

Failure to comply with these directives will result in the ministry taking further measures against Caplugs in accordance with Chinese laws and regulations.
