Iranian Red Crescent Society Confirms Location of President Raisi’s Crashed Helicopter

Tehran, May 20, 2024, The Europe Today: The Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) has confirmed that rescue and search teams have located the wreckage of President Ebrahim Raisi’s helicopter, which crashed in northwestern Iran. IRCS President Pir-Hossein Kolivand made the announcement on Monday morning, stating that the teams have reached the site of the crash.

Kolivand did not provide specific details about the condition of those on board but noted that “the condition is not good.” He added that 73 rescue teams equipped with advanced and specialized equipment are present in the search area, specifically in Tawal village.

Earlier, the Red Crescent’s National Emergency Management Headquarters reported that its rescue teams were directed to two identified hot spots, identified by a Turkish drone. The Turkish high-altitude long-endurance unmanned aerial vehicle, Akinji, detected a heat source believed to be from the crash site. A commander of Iran’s Revolution Guards Corps confirmed the detection of the heat source.

Field sources have also confirmed that the precise geographical coordinates of the helicopter were determined through aerial monitoring of the region. Despite adverse weather conditions, including thick fog and rain, rescuers worked tirelessly to locate the missing helicopter carrying President Raisi and his delegation in the northwestern part of the country.
