Washuk, May 29, 2024, The Europe Today: In a devastating accident, a passenger bus overturned and fell into a ditch in Balochistan’s Washuk district, resulting in the tragic loss of at least 28 lives, including women and children. Rescue officials reported the incident early Wednesday morning.
The accident occurred when a tyre of the bus burst, causing the vehicle to lose control and veer off the road. The bus was en route from Gwadar to Quetta. In addition to the fatalities, around 22 passengers sustained injuries and were promptly transported to Basima Civil Hospital for treatment, according to Levies and rescue officials.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his deep condolences over the tragic event, offering prayers for the departed souls. He also instructed the relevant authorities to ensure that the injured receive the necessary medical care and assistance.
Balochistan’s Chief Minister, Sarfraz Bugti, echoed the Prime Minister’s sentiments, offering his condolences and prayers for the wounded. He emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting the affected families during this difficult time.
This incident follows closely on the heels of two similar accidents in May, where 13 members of the same family were killed, and nine others injured, when a truck plunged into a ditch in Punjab’s Khushab district. That accident, caused by brake failure on Panj Pir Manawan Road, also resulted in the driver losing control and the vehicle falling into a ditch.
The recent string of traffic accidents has highlighted the urgent need for improved road safety measures across Pakistan. As rescue operations continue and investigations into the causes of these accidents are underway, authorities are being urged to take swift action to prevent such tragedies in the future.
