Astana, July 03, 2024, The Europe Today: President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a significant meeting with Prime Minister of Pakistan Shahbaz Sharif today, during a practical visit to the city of Astana. The meeting focused on the urgent issues pertaining to the development of strategic partnership relations between Uzbekistan and Pakistan, particularly in the areas of trade, economy, investment, and transport-communication, according to media reports.
The press service of President Mirziyoyev reported that the ongoing dialogues at various levels have been productive, with a notable increase in mutual trade, shipping, and the number of joint ventures. Both leaders expressed satisfaction with this progress and emphasized the importance of continuing efforts to create favorable conditions for boosting trade volumes under the Agreement on Preferential Trade.
President Mirziyoyev highlighted the necessity of adopting the Industrial Cooperation Program for 2025-2026, which aims to implement projects across various sectors including agriculture, textiles, pharmaceuticals, and chemistry.
Furthermore, it was agreed that the next meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission, alongside a business forum and an industrial exhibition, would be held this year to further strengthen bilateral ties.
The leaders also discussed the need for joint efforts in the implementation of the Trans-Afghan railway construction project, recognizing its significance for regional connectivity and development.
In addition to bilateral matters, opinions were exchanged on pressing regional issues, reinforcing the commitment of both nations to collaborate on shared challenges and opportunities.
This meeting underscores the commitment of Uzbekistan and Pakistan to deepen their strategic partnership and work collaboratively on mutual interests.
