Tel Aviv, July 21, 2024, The Europe Today: In a contentious development, Israel’s National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has issued a stark warning to the United States, threatening to dismantle the Palestinian Authority, including all its institutions and economy, if the U.S. imposes sanctions on extremist Israeli ministers, including himself. This assertion was reported by Israeli media.
The potential sanctions are reportedly being considered by the U.S. administration in response to the policies of expanding settlements in the occupied West Bank. Alongside Ben-Gvir, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich is also under consideration for these sanctions, according to reports by Al Jazeera.
Ben-Gvir, speaking to the Jerusalem Post, criticized the U.S. administration’s actions, stating, “The very act of imposing sanctions on Israeli citizens by the American administration, which has already begun, constitutes a severe violation of Israeli sovereignty.”
This escalating tension between the U.S. and Israel highlights the significant diplomatic friction over settlement policies and the broader Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The situation continues to evolve, with potential far-reaching implications for both regional stability and international relations.
