Ashgabat, July 22, 2024, The Europe Today: President Serdar Berdimuhamedov conveyed heartfelt words of encouragement to the athletes of Turkmenistan who are set to participate in the XXXIII Summer Olympic Games in Paris. The announcement was reported by the Turkmenistan State News Agency (TDH).
The upcoming Olympics, scheduled to take place in the capital of France from July 26 to August 11, 2024, will see the awarding of 329 sets of medals across 32 sports disciplines. Turkmenistan will proudly send a delegation of six athletes to compete in four sports categories.
In his address, President Berdimuhamedov expressed his sincere congratulations to the athletes on their participation in this prestigious global event. He emphasized the importance of representing independent neutral Turkmenistan with dignity and raising the country’s sporting profile on the international stage.
The President highlighted Turkmenistan’s commitment to sports development under the comprehensive state strategy spearheaded by Hero Arkadag, which has significantly elevated the nation’s standing in international sports. He underscored the role of sports competitions, including international events hosted in Turkmenistan, in promoting principles of peace, friendship, and reconciliation through sports.
President Berdimuhamedov praised the ongoing construction and inauguration of modern sports facilities across the country, which have bolstered Turkmen athletes’ capabilities to compete and succeed in various tournaments globally.
Reflecting on Turkmenistan’s active participation in international sports governance, President Berdimuhamedov noted the country’s membership in the International Olympic Committee, the Olympic Council of Asia, and the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for Physical Culture and Sport. He highlighted these affiliations as integral to advancing sports diplomacy in the region.
The President affirmed Turkmenistan’s commitment to fostering a robust national sports movement, emphasizing the responsibility of athletes in enhancing the country’s sports prestige.
