Chinese Premier Li Qiang Urges Tianjin Municipality to Deepen Reform and Promote High-Quality Development

Tianjin, July 23, 2024, The Europe Today: Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Monday called on north China’s Tianjin Municipality to implement comprehensive reform tasks, promote high-standard opening-up, and actively pursue innovation to achieve high-quality development. This directive follows the recent conclusion of the third plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Li, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made these remarks during an inspection tour of the city. His visit emphasized the importance of integrating technological and industrial innovation, creating effective scientific innovation platforms, and enhancing support for scientific researchers and small and medium-sized tech firms.

During his visit to a sci-tech innovation park, Li engaged with researchers and representatives from fintech institutions and start-up companies. He emphasized the need to build robust innovation service ecosystems and effectively apply research outcomes.

Li also inspected an elevator manufacturer and a financial leasing company in the Tianjin Binhai New Area. He highlighted the need to leverage favorable policies, such as the country’s large-scale equipment upgrade program, to support enterprises in advancing innovation and applications in artificial intelligence.

In his remarks, Li underscored the critical role of financial tools, including financial leasing, in serving the real economy and facilitating industrial transformation and upgrading. He encouraged the Binhai New Area to enhance its vitality through deeper reforms, stressing the importance of institutional innovation and addressing bottlenecks in the pilot free trade zone, financial innovation, new urbanization, and high-standard opening-up.

Furthermore, Li urged the area to capitalize on its port and shipping advantages, unlock the potential for industrial upgrading, and strengthen policy and project cooperation with neighboring Beijing and Hebei Province. This, he said, would contribute significantly to the coordinated development of the region.

Li’s visit underscores the central government’s commitment to driving high-quality development through comprehensive reform and innovation, positioning Tianjin as a key player in China’s economic transformation and regional integration efforts.
