Beijing, July 25, 2024, The Europe Today: Chinese President Xi Jinping has called on Xiamen Airlines to actively contribute to economic and social development and enhance exchanges and cooperation across the Taiwan Strait. This directive was issued in a reply letter from Xi to the airline’s staff, marking the 40th anniversary of its founding.
Xi, who also serves as general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, highlighted the airline’s significant progress since its inception. Xiamen, a coastal city strategically positioned on the western side of the Taiwan Strait, plays a pivotal role in facilitating cross-Strait exchanges and integration.
Reflecting on his tenure as vice mayor of Xiamen, Xi recounted his efforts in addressing several challenges faced by Xiamen Airlines during its early stages. He expressed satisfaction with the airline’s impressive development over the past four decades, noting its transformation from a fledgling company into a leading player in the aviation industry.
In his letter, Xi emphasized the importance of continued reform and innovation. He urged the airline’s staff to strengthen its core competitiveness and make substantial contributions to the high-quality development of civil aviation, thereby enhancing China’s transportation capabilities.
Founded in July 1984, Xiamen Airlines holds the distinction of being the first airline in China to operate under a modern corporate system. Today, it boasts a robust network of over 400 domestic and international air routes, serving nearly 40 million passengers annually.
As Xiamen Airlines celebrates this milestone, it is poised to further its role in promoting economic integration and cooperation across the Taiwan Strait, in line with President Xi’s vision for advancing China’s transportation sector.
