Seoul, August 04, 2024, The Europe Today: Minister of Information and Communications Nguyễn Mạnh Hùng of Vietnam undertook a working visit to the Republic of Korea (RoK) in early August, focusing on enhancing bilateral cooperation in digital transformation and artificial intelligence (AI).
Key Discussions and Agreements
During a productive working session with Minister of Science and ICT Lee Jong-ho, Minister Hùng emphasized Vietnam’s commitment to economic growth through digital technology. He highlighted the nation’s focus on developing IT and communications, particularly in Artificial Narrow Intelligence and Specialized AI, areas that require international collaboration for policy development and human resources training.
The ministers discussed various measures to foster digital innovation and pledged to strengthen cooperation in ICT, with a particular emphasis on AI research and development and high-quality training in semiconductor technology.
Engagement with Korean Agencies and Institutions
Minister Hùng also engaged with representatives from several key Korean organizations, including the Digital Platform Government, the Ministry of Science and ICT’s National Information Society Agency, the Korea Internet & Security Agency, and the National IT Industry Promotion Agency. These discussions provided valuable insights into South Korea’s ICT policy research and development processes.
On August 1-2, Hùng visited Seoul Cyber University (SCU) and attended the inaugural ceremony for a new coordination training office established in collaboration with Vietnam’s Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology. He commended the effective cooperation between the institutions and praised the SCU’s digital university model as a benchmark for Vietnamese universities.
Vietnam-RoK Digital Forum
The visit also featured the Vietnam–RoK digital forum, organized in partnership with the Ministry of Science and ICT and related associations from both countries. The forum attracted 20 Vietnamese technology firms and 150 representatives from Korean associations and enterprises. It served as a platform for the Vietnamese ICT business community to promote trade, seek international partners, and facilitate the exchange of policies, initiatives, and advanced technological solutions.
Interaction with Students and Industry Visits
In addition to official meetings, Minister Hùng held talks with Vietnamese students studying ICT in South Korea and visited the representative office of FPT, a leading Vietnamese technology company operating in the RoK.
Minister Hùng’s visit underscores Vietnam’s dedication to leveraging international cooperation to advance its digital transformation agenda. The trip is expected to yield significant benefits for both nations, fostering innovation and development in the rapidly evolving fields of digital technology and AI.
