Islamabad, August 06, 2024, The Europe Today: According to the NHC, Pakistan Post has suspended parcel bookings for the United States for a month, resulting in substantial financial losses amounting to hundreds of thousands of dollars, it was revealed on Monday.
The suspension has not only disrupted the trade of Pakistani products in the U.S. but has also impacted the national exchequer. E-commerce shipments, in particular, have faced cancellations due to this halt.
According to sources within Pakistan Post, the primary reason for the suspension is the non-payment of compensation to American shipping companies. The utility also cited inadequate parcel packing as a contributing factor to the decision.
An inquiry report by the Directorate General of Pakistan Post highlighted several issues leading to the return of mail from the U.S. These included deficiencies and missing Electronic Advanced Data (EAD), and incorrect classification of letter mail. The report indicated that small-sized registered letters were being sent to the U.S. without generating ITMATT messages, or with faulty/incomplete ITMATT messages, causing mail rejections by the USPS.
The directorate further noted that booking staff had been filling out incorrect information in mandatory fields, exacerbating the problem.
Small businesses and e-commerce sellers have urged the government to take immediate action to resume parcel deliveries to the U.S. through Pakistan Post, emphasizing the significant impact on trade and business operations.
Meanwhile, parcel and mail bookings to the United Kingdom and other countries continue without interruption.
