Bandar Seri Begawan, August 12, 2024, The Europe Today: The Vietnam Embassy in Brunei Darussalam marked the 79th National Day of Vietnam with a celebratory event on Saturday, underscoring the deepening diplomatic and economic ties between the two nations. The event was attended by Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism, Dato Seri Setia Dr. Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin, among other dignitaries.
Vietnam’s Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam, Tran Anh Vu, delivered a keynote address praising the robust and friendly relationship that has flourished between Vietnam and Brunei since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1992. Ambassador Vu highlighted the significant growth in bilateral trade in 2024, noting that the trade volume has nearly tripled compared to the previous year. Brunei’s position as the 20th largest investor in Vietnam was also emphasized, with increasing collaboration in sectors such as energy, logistics, the Halal industry, and fisheries.
In addition to the economic partnership, Ambassador Vu emphasized the importance of cultural and educational exchanges as a cornerstone of Vietnam-Brunei relations. He cited the recent visit of the Vietnamese Navy Tallship Le Quy Don to Brunei, which facilitated meaningful exchanges with the Royal Brunei Navy, as an example of the growing defense cooperation between the two countries. The ambassador also lauded the collaboration between the University of Brunei Darussalam (UBD) and Vietnamese universities, particularly the successful Vietnamese language program at UBD, as a testament to the strong educational ties.
In his concluding remarks, Ambassador Vu expressed his gratitude to various Bruneian government agencies and partners for their continued support in fostering Vietnam-Brunei cooperation. He also extended his thanks to the Vietnamese community in Brunei for their ongoing efforts to strengthen the bond between the two nations.
The celebration served as a reflection of the enduring partnership between Vietnam and Brunei Darussalam, with both countries committed to further enhancing their diplomatic, economic, and cultural relations in the years to come.
