Ho Chi Minh City, August 12, 2024, The Europe Today: As Vietnam prepares to celebrate National Day on September 2, the country’s filmmakers are gearing up to entertain audiences with a series of new movie releases. Among the anticipated films is Hai Muối, the directorial debut of renowned television producer Vũ Thành Vinh.
Hai Muối is a poignant drama centered around the life of a salt farmer named Hai, who lives on the picturesque island of Thiềng Liềng in Cần Giờ District, the only district in Ho Chi Minh City that borders the sea. The film explores themes of family love and sacrifice, focusing on Hai, a single father who dedicates his life to raising his daughter. As his daughter grows up and moves to the city for her studies, the differences in their perspectives on life lead to conflict, highlighting the generational gap between father and daughter.
Meritorious Artist Vinh, who unveiled the film at a press conference last week, shared that Hai Muối has been years in the making. “Although this is a family movie, it will have fresh and touching details because it is life,” Vinh said. “I hope audiences will love their parents more after watching the movie.”
Vinh, 48, is an accomplished figure in Vietnamese entertainment, having graduated in Cinematography and Directing from the Ho Chi Minh City University of Cinematography and Theatre in 1999. He is best known for producing popular TV shows such as Solo Cùng Bolero (Singing Bolero), Cười Xuyên Việt (Let’s Laugh), and Gương Mặt Điện Ảnh (Movie Star), which have captivated Vietnamese audiences for nearly a decade.
For Hai Muối, Vinh brought actor Quyền Linh back to the big screen after a 20-year hiatus to play the role of Hai, the devoted father. Linh, a celebrated actor who rose to fame in the 1990s with leading roles in films such as Người Hà Nội (The Hanoian), Những Nẻo Đường Phù Sa (The Saga of Alluvial), and Đồng Tiền Xương Máu (Bloody Money), expressed his enthusiasm for the project. “I was attracted by the script and the character as a father of two daughters,” Linh said. “I want to introduce my daughters to a father named Hai who I love so much, as well as my wonderful moments and joys of being a father.”
The film also features rising star Huỳnh Bảo Ngọc as Hai’s daughter, alongside People’s Artists Hồng Vân and Việt Anh in supporting roles.
Since the early 2000s, Linh has transitioned into hosting and producing several charity TV shows, earning acclaim for his contributions to the community. He currently serves as the vice chairman of the Việt Nam Cinema Association.
As Hai Muối and other films are set to hit theaters, Vietnamese audiences can look forward to a cinematic celebration of family, love, and tradition during the upcoming National Day holiday.
