Turkmenistan’s Embassy in Belarus Celebrates 300th Anniversary of Poet Magtymguly Pyragy

Minsk, August 16, 2024, The Europe Today: The Embassy of Turkmenistan in the Republic of Belarus hosted a ceremonial event commemorating the 300th anniversary of the birth of the renowned Turkmen poet Magtymguly Pyragy. The celebration took place at the Belarusian Society for Friendship and Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries, also known as the House of Friendship, and attracted a diverse audience.

The event was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, various diplomatic missions, international organizations accredited in Minsk, and notable figures from the scientific and cultural communities. The Turkmen diaspora, local university students, and media representatives also participated in the ceremony.

Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Belarus, Nazarguly Shagulyev, and Chairperson of the Presidium of the Belarusian Friendship Society, Nina Ivanova, delivered welcoming remarks, highlighting the significance of Magtymguly Pyragy’s contributions to world literature and the enduring cultural ties between Turkmenistan and Belarus.

The program featured presentations that explored the influence of Magtymguly Pyragy’s work on global literature and the role of Belarusian translators in bringing his poetry to a wider audience. The event also included the screening of thematic videos, an exhibition showcasing photographs and book publications related to the poet, and a musical performance that celebrated Turkmen culture.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan reported that the event was a testament to the lasting legacy of Magtymguly Pyragy and the shared cultural bonds between Turkmenistan and Belarus.
