Nusantara, August 17, 2024, The Europe Today: In a significant display of cultural heritage, Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and Vice President Ma’ruf Amin led the Seconds to the Independence Proclamation ceremony with traditional attire representing Indonesia’s rich cultural diversity. The ceremonies were held simultaneously at the State Palace in the IKN Nusantara Capital City and the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Saturday.
At the IKN Nusantara Capital City, President Jokowi donned the East Kalimantan Kustim traditional clothing, which draws inspiration from the historic Kutai Kertanegara Sultanate. This attire symbolizes the deep cultural roots of the region and adds historical context to the Independence Day commemoration.
Vice President Ma’ruf Amin, who participated in the Jakarta ceremony, wore traditional Pontianak attire from West Kalimantan. His ensemble included clothing from the Sambas Malay Tribe, reflecting the cultural richness of the region.
Vice President-Elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka and his family also contributed to the cultural representation of the day. Gibran and his son, Jan Ethes, wore traditional Papuan clothing, while his wife, Selvi Ananda, was dressed in Lampung traditional attire, featuring blue fabric adorned with gold decorations. Their daughter, La Lembah Manah, complemented the occasion in a simple black kebaya with gold accents.
The ceremonial events in both locations were marked by solemnity and respect. President Jokowi served as the Inspector of Ceremony at the IKN Nusantara Capital City, with Infantry Colonel Nur Wahyudi, Commander of the Army’s Special Strike Force (Kopassus) Unit 81, acting as the Ceremony Commander.
Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR), Puan Maharani, performed the reading of the Proclamation Text, which was broadcast live to both the IKN and Jakarta ceremonies.
President Jokowi guided the moment of silence and observed the hoisting of the National Red and White Heritage Flag, emphasizing the significance of Indonesia’s independence and the unity of its diverse cultures. The ceremonies were attended by various high-ranking officials and notable guests, including President-elect Prabowo Subianto.
The dual ceremonies showcased Indonesia’s commitment to honoring its historical roots while embracing its diverse cultural tapestry, reinforcing the nation’s pride and unity.
