Hanoi, August 18, 2024, The Europe Today: General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee and State President Tô Lâm, along with his spouse and a high-ranking delegation, departed from Hanoi on the morning of August 18 for a state visit to China. The visit, scheduled from August 18 to 20, comes at the invitation of General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and President of China, Xi Jinping, and his spouse.
President Tô Lâm’s visit underscores the continued strengthening of diplomatic and political ties between Vietnam and China, reflecting the importance both nations place on their bilateral relationship.
Accompanying President Tô Lâm are several key figures from Vietnam’s political landscape, including Đỗ Văn Chiến, Politburo member and Secretary of the Party Central Committee, who also serves as President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee; Lê Minh Hưng, Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, and head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Organisation; and Nguyễn Xuân Thắng, Politburo member, President of the Hồ Chí Minh National Academy of Politics, and Chairman of the Central Theory Council.
The delegation also includes Gen. Phan Văn Giang, Politburo member and Minister of National Defence; Sen. Lieut. Gen. Lương Tam Quang, Politburo member and Minister of Public Security; Lê Hoài Trung, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations; and Nguyễn Duy Ngọc, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Chief of the Office of the Party Central Committee. Additionally, Trần Lưu Quang, member of the Party Central Committee and Deputy Prime Minister, and Nguyễn Khắc Định, member of the Party Central Committee and Vice Chairman of the National Assembly, are part of the delegation.
This visit is expected to further consolidate the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and China, fostering cooperation in various fields of mutual interest. The discussions will likely cover a broad range of topics, including political, economic, and security matters, aimed at deepening the longstanding ties between the two neighboring nations.
