Kuala Lumpur, August 19, 2024, The Europe Today: Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has expressed Malaysia’s strong support for Qatar’s decision to prioritize addressing the severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

This statement came following a phone conversation on Sunday afternoon, August 18, between Prime Minister Anwar and his Qatari counterpart, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, who also serves as Qatar’s Foreign Affairs Minister. The discussion focused on the latest developments in the Middle East.

During the conversation, Sheikh Mohammed emphasized the urgent need to capitalize on a crucial opportunity to achieve positive outcomes in the ongoing ceasefire negotiations between Palestine and Israel. He stressed the importance of swift action to secure these outcomes.

“On behalf of the people of Malaysia, I conveyed our deep appreciation for Qatar’s significant role and affirmed our commitment to assist in this critical mission at Sheikh Mohammed’s request,” Anwar said in a Facebook post on Sunday.

Prime Minister Anwar also stated his intention to reach out to the President of Iran and representatives of Hamas, as requested by Sheikh Mohammed. His efforts will focus on facilitating peace negotiations, enforcing the ceasefire, and expediting the delivery of humanitarian aid to the people of Palestine.

“Insya-Allah, I will soon engage with the President of Iran and the representative of Hamas to advance these vital goals,” Anwar added.
