China Urges U.S. and Allies to Cease Provocations in South China Sea

Beijing, August 21, 2024, The Europe Today: The Chinese embassy in the Philippines has called on the United States and other nations to stop provoking confrontation in the South China Sea and to refrain from actions that undermine regional stability. In a statement issued Tuesday following the Xianbin Jiao collision, a spokesperson for the Chinese embassy emphasized that the U.S. and other non-regional countries have no right to interfere in maritime matters between China and the Philippines.

The incident in question occurred on Monday when two Philippine coast guard vessels reportedly entered waters near Xianbin Jiao, part of China’s Nansha Qundao, without permission. The Chinese embassy claims that despite warnings from the China Coast Guard, the Philippine vessels acted dangerously by deliberately ramming a Chinese law enforcement vessel.

Following the collision, the U.S. State Department and several allied embassies in the Philippines issued statements condemning China’s actions, which the Chinese spokesperson described as inflammatory and indicative of ulterior motives.

The Chinese embassy reiterated its commitment to resolving maritime disputes with the Philippines through dialogue and consultation. The spokesperson urged the Philippines to honor its commitments and avoid actions that could further escalate tensions in the region. China called for cooperation to maintain peace and stability in the South China Sea.
