Li Qiang Urges Global Collaboration to Boost China’s Robot Industry

Beijing, August 26, 2024, The Europe Today: Chinese Premier Li Qiang has underscored the importance of fostering an open environment for technical innovation and encouraging foreign firms and research institutions to invest in China, particularly in advancing the robot industry through closer global collaboration. Premier Li made these remarks during a field survey visit to the 2024 World Robot Expo in Beijing on Sunday.

During his visit, Premier Li emphasized the need to establish and utilize cooperation platforms for industrial exchanges, ensuring the stability and smooth functioning of industrial and supply chains. He highlighted the crucial role of technical innovation in driving the global development of the robot industry.

While touring the expo’s exhibition hall, Premier Li engaged with exhibitors, inquiring about the performance, technological advantages, and practical applications of the robots on display. The expo, which is part of the five-day World Robot Conference that began on Wednesday, is themed “Co-fostering New Quality Productive Forces for a Shared Intelligent Future.”

Premier Li called for increased efforts to promote technical innovation and industrial development, aiming to cultivate new growth engines and continuously improve the well-being of the population. He referred to robots as a key indicator of technical innovation and high-end manufacturing capability, stressing that innovation should be directed toward industrial upgrading, meeting the demands of a more sophisticated consumer base, and positioning China at the forefront of global industry.

Li Qiang also highlighted China’s strategic advantages, including its vast domestic market and diverse innovation scenarios. He urged the acceleration of robot-related technological innovation across various sectors, including manufacturing, agriculture, and services.

To further boost the robot industry, Premier Li emphasized the need to attract more venture capital investment, incubate unicorn firms and “little giant” enterprises—small and medium-sized companies specializing in niche markets with cutting-edge technologies. He also called for the development of specialized industrial clusters that leverage China’s unique strengths.

The 2024 World Robot Expo serves as a crucial platform for showcasing the latest advancements in robotics and facilitating international collaboration, aligning with China’s broader goals of strengthening its position as a leader in global technical innovation and high-end manufacturing.
