Paris, September 02, 2024, The Europe Today: Malaysian sprinter Eddy Bernard made history today by becoming the country’s first medallist at the Paris Paralympics, claiming the bronze medal in the T44 men’s 100m race. Competing at the iconic Stade de France, the 23-year-old athlete from Beluran, Sabah, finished the race in 11.77 seconds.
Bernard, who was born with a small right leg and a disjointed finger, not only secured a podium finish but also surpassed his personal best of 10.77 seconds, which he set at the World Para Championships in Kobe last May.
The gold medal in the event was claimed by South Africa’s Mpumelelo Mhlongo, who completed the race in 11.12 seconds. Spain’s Luis Vives Suares took the silver with a time of 11.20 seconds.
Eddy Bernard’s achievement marks a significant milestone for Malaysia at the Paris Paralympics, as he continues to inspire with his remarkable determination and athletic prowess.
