Bandar Seri Begawan, September 02, 2024, The Europe Today: In a distinguished ceremony held on Monday at Istana Nurul Iman, His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, awarded the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Sultan’s Scholar 2024/2025 scholarships to five outstanding students.
The ceremony was graced by the presence of His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, and His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik, Chairman of the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Committee of Governors.
The recipients of the prestigious Sultan’s Scholar 2024/2025 scholarships are:
- Dayang Nur Hidayah Haziyah binti Handrie, a former student of Jerudong International School (JIS), who will pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Geoscience at University College London.
- Awang Muhammad Asfa Radhi bin Mohammad Yusran, a graduate of Tutong Sixth Form Centre, who will continue his studies with a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Chemical Engineering) at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia.
- Awang Muhammad Nafeez bin Haji Arbaie, a graduate of Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Science College, who will embark on a Bachelor’s Degree in Data Science and Decisions at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia.
- Awang Muhammad Afiq bin Abdul Rahman, a former JIS student, who will pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics at University College London, United Kingdom.
- Awangku Mohammad Idris Fadhlee bin Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohammad Tashim, a graduate of Sekolah Menengah Arab Laki-Laki Hassanal Bolkiah, who will pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Sharia Islamiyyah at Al-Azhar University, Arab Republic of Egypt.

Following the recitation of Doa Selamat by State Mufti Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah took the opportunity to interact with the scholarship recipients.
The event was attended by members of the Administrative Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, the Board of Directors, the Steering Committee for the Sultan’s Scholar scheme, Permanent Secretaries and Deputy Permanent Secretaries of the Ministries of Education and Religious Affairs, as well as several alumni of the Sultan’s Scholar program.
The Sultan’s Scholar program continues to uphold its commitment to nurturing talented individuals who will contribute significantly to their fields of study and to the global community.
