Iraq and Iran to Forge New Economic Partnership with Joint Industrial Units in Semnan

Tehran, September 03, 2024, The Europe Today: In a significant move towards strengthening economic ties, Iraqi envoy Nasir Abdul Mohsen Abdullah announced Iraq’s readiness to establish joint industrial units with Iran. This development was revealed during a meeting with the Governor of Semnan Province on Monday evening.

Emphasizing the shared religious and cultural heritage between the peoples of Iran and Iraq, Abdullah outlined the potential benefits of joint economic cooperation. He highlighted specific areas such as industry, agriculture, and mining where collaboration could be particularly advantageous for both nations.

The initial implementation measures for setting up industrial units in Semnan Province are now on the agenda, according to the Iraqi envoy. Abdullah expressed Iraq’s interest in importing mineral, agricultural, and horticultural products from Semnan, and urged the Governor to facilitate joint economic meetings involving Iranian businessmen to further these objectives.

Governor Seyyed Mohammad Reza Hashemi underscored Semnan’s economic strengths and its strategic location between the shrine of Imam Reza (AS) and the shrine of Hazrat Masoumeh (SA). He noted that the province serves as a major transit point for millions of pilgrims visiting these religious sites annually.

Additionally, Hashemi highlighted Semnan’s role as an academic hub, attracting international students. He pointed out that approximately 1,200 Iraqi students are currently pursuing various courses in Semnan, reflecting the province’s educational appeal.

This proposed partnership aims to bolster economic ties between Iraq and Iran and capitalize on the existing cultural and educational connections between the two nations.
