Jakarta, September 05, 2024, The Europe Today: Indonesia is advancing its clean energy transition not only to cut carbon emissions but also to stimulate the growth of green industries, according to Maritime Affairs and Investment Coordinating Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan. Speaking at the International Sustainability Forum (ISF) 2024 in Jakarta, Minister Luhut outlined the broader goals of Indonesia’s energy strategy during a plenary session held today.
“Our energy transition is designed to boost the economy by fostering the development of green industries,” Minister Luhut stated. He emphasized that achieving this objective requires significant global collaboration and investment to ensure the sustainability and acceleration of the transition process.
Luhut also introduced the National Energy Transition Task Force, established by the Indonesian government to drive initiatives that align with the country’s energy transition goals. This includes identifying and advancing 400 priority projects in the electricity sector, which are currently seeking funding from international partners such as the International Partners Group (IPG) and the Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ) under the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP).
The Minister acknowledged the diverse approaches countries may adopt for decarbonization based on their unique fiscal capacities, technological capabilities, and political circumstances. He emphasized that while Indonesia values global strategies, it is crucial for developing nations to tailor their solutions to fit their specific contexts and needs.
“The solutions of developed countries may not always be applicable to our situation due to differences in fiscal capacity and technology access,” Luhut remarked. “It is vital for us to choose and implement strategies that suit our unique conditions while contributing to global emission reduction efforts.”
The ISF 2024, held on September 5-6, aims to bring together global leaders from various sectors to share knowledge, exchange insights, and propose solutions and best practices for tackling climate change. The forum features a series of plenary sessions, thematic discussions, high-level dialogues, and an exhibition, as well as the signing of memoranda of understanding.
As Indonesia continues its journey toward a more sustainable future, the ISF 2024 serves as a crucial platform for fostering international cooperation and advancing global climate goals.
