Hanoi, September 06, 2024, The Europe Today: In response to the impending threat of Super Typhoon Yagi, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has ordered the temporary suspension of aircraft operations at four major airports across the country. The decision was made during a meeting on Thursday to address the severe risks posed by the strongest typhoon to impact Vietnam’s East Sea (South China Sea) in a decade.
According to the latest weather forecast from the National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting on September 5, Typhoon Yagi, designated as Typhoon No.3, is expected to cause significant natural disaster risks and could severely impact airport safety. The typhoon’s intensity and unpredictable development prompted immediate action to ensure public safety and protect aviation operations.
Airport Closures and Timelines
Director of the CAAV, Đinh Việt Thắng, announced the temporary suspension of flights at four airports in the northern and central regions of Vietnam. The affected airports and suspension times are as follows:
- Vân Đồn International Airport (Quảng Ninh Province): 4:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on September 7
- Cát Bi International Airport (Hải Phòng City): 5:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on September 7

- Thọ Xuân Airport (Thanh Hóa Province): 12:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on September 7
The CAAV has directed the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM) to issue necessary aviation notifications in line with regulations and to ensure absolute safety in all flight operations.
Ongoing Monitoring and Precautionary Measures
Authorities are continuing to monitor Typhoon Yagi’s trajectory and developments closely, urging all aviation units to remain vigilant and take preventive measures. The temporary closures aim to protect passengers, crew, and airport infrastructure from the severe weather conditions expected to affect the region.
As Vietnam braces for the impact of Super Typhoon Yagi, the CAAV’s swift response highlights the country’s commitment to ensuring safety in the face of extreme natural disasters.
