Tajikistan’s Supreme Mufti Attacked Near Dushanbe Mosque; Suspect Detained

Dushanbe, September 12, 2024, The Europe Today: Supreme Mufti of Tajikistan, Saidmukarram Abdulkodirzoda, was attacked with a machete near the central mosque in Dushanbe, as reported by Asia Plus and confirmed by the Interior Ministry of Tajikistan. The incident occurred at 5:20 p.m. local time after prayers at the mosque.

The mufti, who sustained minor injuries, was not hospitalized. Authorities have swiftly detained the suspect involved in the attack. A criminal case has been initiated to investigate the matter further.

Saidmukarram Abdulkodirzoda, 61, has served as the head of the Council of Ulema of Tajikistan since October 2010. The motive behind the attack is currently under investigation.
