Beijing, September 16, 2024 — The Europe Today: China’s transportation sectors saw a significant surge in passenger traffic, handling approximately 215.92 million trips on Sunday, the first day of the three-day holiday for the Mid-Autumn Festival. This marks a 37.9 percent increase compared to the same period last year, according to data released by the Ministry of Transport.
Of the total trips, 17.09 million were made by railway, 544,100 by water, and 1.84 million by air. The majority of the traffic was on highways, which accounted for a substantial 196.45 million passenger trips.
The Mid-Autumn Festival, one of China’s most important traditional holidays, falls on September 17 this year, with millions of people traveling across the country to reunite with their families and celebrate the occasion.
