Macao, September 16, 2024 – The Europe Today: China’s Sun Yingsha and Lin Shidong triumphed at the World Table Tennis (WTT) Champions Macao 2024 on Sunday, claiming championship trophies in their respective categories.

Sun Yingsha, known as “ShaSha” to her fans, defeated compatriot Wang Yidi 4-2 in the women’s final, securing her third WTT Champions title of 2024, following earlier victories in Incheon and Chongqing. This win also marked Sun’s fifth WTT Champions title overall. During the press briefing, Sun expressed satisfaction with her current form, calling this victory an excellent start for the next Olympic cycle. “There will be many changes and competition over the next four years, but I’m very happy to win the first championship, which has given me a lot of confidence,” she said.

In the men’s final, 19-year-old Lin Shidong swept Germany’s Qiu Dang 4-0 to win his first-ever WTT Champions title. Lin, who had previously upset world No. 1 Wang Chuqin 4-1 in the semifinals, said his performance exceeded his own expectations.

Both Sun and Lin are now looking ahead to the upcoming China Smash 2024, set to take place in Beijing from September 26 to October 6.
