Turkmenistan and Germany Strengthen Bilateral Relations at Central Asia-Germany Summit

Astana, September 19, 2024 – The Europe Today: The meeting between President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz during the Central Asia-Germany (5+1) summit in Astana has marked a significant step towards deepening Turkmen-German relations, News Hub Consultants reported according to Turkmenistan’s official media.

During the meeting, Chancellor Scholz emphasized Germany’s strong interest in enhancing its partnership with Turkmenistan, acknowledging the country’s international recognition for its wise policies and progressive initiatives. Both leaders expressed mutual satisfaction with the opportunity to discuss key bilateral issues, underscoring the trust and mutual respect that form the foundation of their cooperation.

President Berdimuhamedov highlighted the importance of systematically developing relations between the two countries, which are supported by 90 agreements and treaties. He also stressed the value of continued collaboration through cross-sectoral initiatives such as Economic Days, business forums, exhibitions, and the work of the Turkmen-German Joint Working Group and the Eastern Committee of the German Economy.

The discussions took place during the second Central Asia-Germany (5+1) summit, which brings together Central Asian nations and Germany to explore regional cooperation. The first summit, held in Berlin last year, resulted in the signing of a strategic regional partnership program, further cementing the relationship between Central Asia and Germany.

This latest meeting in Astana reflects the growing importance of Turkmenistan as a key partner for Germany in Central Asia, with both leaders committing to further strengthening their economic and diplomatic ties.
