Tajikistan and United Nations University Sign MoU to Boost Academic and Scientific Collaboration

New York, September 24, 2024 – The Europe Today: Tajikistan and the United Nations University (UNU) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen academic and scientific collaboration. The agreement was formalized on the sidelines of the Summit of the Future in New York on September 22, according to the Foreign Ministry of Tajikistan.

The MoU focuses on tackling critical global environmental challenges, with a primary emphasis on water, environmental issues, health, food security, agriculture, climate change, biodiversity, and sustainability transitions. This partnership will facilitate knowledge sharing, capacity-building efforts, and policy-relevant research that supports the objectives of both Tajikistan and the United Nations at national, regional, and global levels.

In addition, the collaboration will advance science, technology, innovation, and sustainable development initiatives in alignment with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The MoU was signed by Tajikistan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sirojiddin Muhriddin, and the United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Rector of UNU, Tshilidzi Marwala, during a ceremony held at the Permanent Mission of Tajikistan to the UN in New York.

This agreement marks a significant step in furthering Tajikistan’s ongoing efforts to address environmental and sustainability challenges through international partnerships.
