Tajikistan and World Bank Collaborate on Glaciers Preservation Conference

New York, September 28, 2024 – The Europe Today: Tajikistan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sirojiddin Muhriddin, met with Jennifer Sara, Global Director for the World Bank Group’s Climate Change Global Practice, on the sidelines of the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly on September 25, 2024, according to a report by Tajikistan’s Foreign Ministry.

The discussions focused on the preparations for the upcoming International Conference Dedicated to Glaciers’ Preservation, scheduled to take place in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, in May 2025.

Both sides agreed on collaboration for content preparation, with the World Bank partnering with the government of Tajikistan, the World Meteorological Organization, and UNESCO. This cooperation aims to address the critical issue of glaciers’ preservation in the face of climate change, a topic of growing importance globally, especially for Central Asia.

The conference will bring together international stakeholders to work toward sustainable solutions for glacier preservation, ensuring long-term climate resilience and environmental stability in the region.
