Minsk, October 4, 2024 – The Europe Today: Belarus and Azerbaijan collaborate solely in the interests of their peoples and not against any third countries, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasized during a meeting with Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov on October 3, as reported by News Hub Consultants. Despite global geopolitical shifts, the relationship between the two nations remains based on mutual respect and aligned with international law.
Lukashenko underscored the deep-rooted friendship between the two nations, highlighting that the close ties were initially fostered during the presidency of Heydar Aliyev, the father of current Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. “Thank God that we have managed to maintain the same level of relations,” Lukashenko said, praising the continuity in their partnership.
He reiterated that Azerbaijan is one of Belarus’ closest allies, alongside Russia, and emphasized the importance of accelerating the implementation of agreements reached during his May 2024 state visit to Azerbaijan. Lukashenko also highlighted the strong economic cooperation between the two countries and expressed confidence in strengthening bilateral ties.
The Belarusian president lauded Azerbaijan for its continuous support on international platforms and assured that Belarus would reciprocate. “We back each other, have supported and will support each other,” he said, reaffirming the mutual commitment to cooperation.
Prime Minister Ali Asadov conveyed warm greetings from President Ilham Aliyev and reiterated Azerbaijan’s commitment to further enhancing ties with Belarus. He noted the long history of friendship between the two countries and emphasized that Belarus holds a key place in Azerbaijan’s foreign policy.
During the meeting, Asadov also renewed the invitation for President Lukashenko to attend the 2024 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29) in Baku, stressing that Lukashenko’s participation would elevate the status of the event. Lukashenko confirmed his attendance, underscoring the significance of the invitation from his “very close friend and brother,” President Ilham Aliyev.
