Minsk, October 05, 2024 – The Europe Today: Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has called for the revival of the Polesie development program during a working visit to Pinsk District, Brest Oblast. The president emphasized the need to reignite efforts to revitalize the Polesie region, highlighting that previous attempts had been inconsistent, with some progress made but other areas neglected.
Lukashenko stressed the importance of restoring and developing the region to ensure that Belarus is left in good shape for future generations. He noted that the government had been instructed to prioritize major projects and allocate necessary funds to ensure the program’s success. “We should put things in order where necessary,” Lukashenko remarked, aiming to complete the task within five years.
The president also drew attention to other regional initiatives, such as the long-term rehabilitation of Chernobyl-affected areas in Mogilev Oblast, which he hailed as a success. He noted that Vitebsk Oblast will soon undergo a thorough plan of action for development.
Lukashenko singled out Mogilev Oblast, stating that while it has excellent resources and potential for growth, it lacks the necessary discipline for effective development. He called for a stricter approach to ensure that the region’s potential is fully realized.
The president highlighted the strategic importance of the Polesie region, particularly areas extending from Pinsk to Mozyr, urging additional focus on districts that require further support for sustainable development.
