Amman, October 06, 2024 – The Europe Today: President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan of the UAE met today with His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein of Jordan, as part of an official visit to Amman. The talks, held at Basman Palace, focused on the robust fraternal relations between the two nations and their ongoing cooperation in areas that support sustainable development, prosperity, and regional stability.
King Abdullah II warmly welcomed the UAE President and his accompanying delegation, expressing his pleasure at the visit, which he described as a significant step in deepening ties between Jordan and the UAE.
During the meeting, the two leaders reaffirmed their strong bilateral cooperation in key sectors such as the economy, investment, food security, renewable energy, and sustainable development. They emphasized the importance of building on these foundations to explore new avenues for collaboration, aligning their efforts with the aspirations of both countries for continued growth and progress.
A key highlight of the discussions was the recently signed Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, which both leaders hailed as a natural extension of the longstanding economic relations between the UAE and Jordan. The agreement sets the stage for expanding opportunities in a wide range of sectors, further cementing the strategic economic partnership between the two nations.
In addition to bilateral issues, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed and King Abdullah II addressed several pressing regional and international matters, with particular focus on developments in Gaza and Lebanon. They stressed the urgency of intensifying efforts to achieve a ceasefire and ensuring the protection of civilians in line with international humanitarian law. Both leaders called for collective action to address the humanitarian crisis and prevent further escalation of the conflict, which threatens regional stability.
Sheikh Mohamed praised Jordan’s historical role in supporting the Palestinian people and commended the country’s efforts in addressing the humanitarian challenges in Gaza. Both leaders underscored the importance of pursuing a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace in the region, based on the two-state solution, to ensure long-term security for all parties involved.
The meeting also included discussions on enhancing Arab cooperation, both bilaterally and collectively, in light of the ongoing challenges facing the region.
The UAE delegation accompanying His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed included H.H. Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi, and several high-ranking officials. The Jordanian side was represented by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, Prime Minister Jaafar Hassan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi, and other senior officials.
