Beijing, October 17, 2024 – The Europe Today: Chinese President Xi Jinping has urged students participating in the China International College Students’ Innovation Competition 2024 to embrace the spirit of science and actively engage in technological innovation. In a letter addressed to the student representatives, Xi, who also serves as General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, praised the students for their efforts and contributions, NHC reports.
Xi commended the students for using the competition as a platform to apply their classroom and laboratory knowledge to real-world problems, enhancing their skills in innovative practices, and fostering cross-cultural friendships through mutual learning.
“Young people are an important driving force behind innovation,” Xi wrote, emphasizing the critical role students play in advancing technological progress. He called on them to contribute to promoting scientific and technological exchanges between China and other nations, while encouraging further development in these fields.
Xi also highlighted the importance of society’s role in supporting the growth of young people, urging for the creation of a favorable environment for innovation and entrepreneurship. He stressed the need to provide expansive platforms where youth can fully showcase their talents, as part of China’s broader goal to advance Chinese modernization.
This year’s competition attracted more than 20 million students from 153 countries and regions, with the final round taking place in Shanghai. The event, co-organized by China’s Ministry of Education along with various provincial governments and relevant authorities, serves as a global platform for college students to engage in innovation, entrepreneurship, and cross-border cooperation.
