Volozhin, October 20, 2024 – The Europe Today: Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko took part in the regional stage of the Dazhynki harvest festival in Volozhin on Saturday, where he addressed speculation surrounding his participation in the event and potential election campaigns.
During his speech, Lukashenko dismissed claims from opposition groups, particularly those in exile, that his presence at the festival was politically motivated. “This is not about the election campaign,” he stated firmly, adding that while the country would elect its next president through a proper, transparent procedure, his current focus was elsewhere. “I am here to thank the people of Belarus for ensuring our country’s food security,” he said.
The president emphasized that his participation in the Dazhynki festival is a gesture of appreciation for the country’s farmers, noting the critical role they play in securing Belarus’ self-sufficiency in food production. He reminisced about the country’s past struggles with food shortages and praised the achievements of Belarusian farmers, who now export products to over 100 countries worldwide.
Lukashenko also expressed concern that he may not always have the opportunity to engage with rural communities in his capacity as president, underscoring the importance of showing gratitude to those who have supported him and contributed to the nation’s development.
In his closing remarks, Lukashenko reiterated that his visits to the harvest festivals and other events were driven by a desire to personally thank the people for their hard work, patriotism, and loyalty over the years. He assured the public that comprehensive programs would continue to improve the lives of farmers, veterans, and pensioners, ensuring no one is left behind.
The Dazhynki harvest festival celebrates Belarus’ agricultural achievements and has long been an important event for the country’s rural communities.
