Astana, October 23, 2024 – The Europe Today: Kazakhstan is poised to significantly expand its wheat exports to European and Asian markets, according to Vice Minister of Trade and Integration Kairat Torebayev. Speaking to media, Torebayev highlighted Kazakhstan’s export potential, estimated at 12 million tons of agricultural products, with wheat comprising 7-7.5 million tons of this total.
Kazakhstan’s wheat exports are expected to target key EU countries such as Italy, Latvia, and Spain. The country is also focusing on other agricultural exports, including 1.3-1.4 million tons of barley and 300,000 tons of corn, with oil-bearing crop production projected to surpass 1 million tons.
In addition to Europe, Kazakhstan aims to export up to 4.2 million tons of wheat to Central Asia and Afghanistan. Torebayev also noted a significant increase in wheat exports to China, which reached 538,800 tons in 2023—a 15-fold increase from the previous year. This growth has raised the potential for further expansion in China and across other Asian countries, with Kazakhstan targeting up to 1.6 million tons of wheat exports to the region.
The vice minister emphasized Kazakhstan’s commitment to entering new markets in Europe, specifically mentioning Italy, Latvia, and Spain, while also strengthening its presence in Türkiye and the Middle East, where export potential stands at 1 million tons. He underscored the importance of restoring wheat supplies to Iran and promoting Kazakhstan’s wheat brand in emerging markets such as Pakistan, Indonesia, Brazil, and Malaysia.
These export initiatives are part of Kazakhstan’s broader strategy to enhance its agricultural trade and diversify its export destinations in the coming years.
