Magelang, October 27, 2024 — The Europe Today: President Prabowo Subianto has reinforced his commitment to finalizing the Indonesian Capital City (IKN) project within the next four years, with plans for the city to become a focal point of government and political activities by 2028. The announcement was made during a retreat with the Red and White Cabinet held at the Military Academy in Magelang, Central Java.
The update was shared by Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni, who posted on social media following a briefing led by Prabowo. In his post, Antoni quoted the President describing the IKN as a “Political Capital,” underscoring the urgency of completing executive, legislative, and judicial buildings by 2028.
“We have decided to continue and complete IKN construction. There is no more question,” stated Minister Antoni.
According to current plans, the government is aiming to conduct the 2028 DPR/MPR Plenary Session at the new capital, with hopes that the 2029 inauguration of the President and Vice President will also be held there. IKN Authority (OIKN) has confirmed its commitment to maintaining the project’s momentum, with significant ongoing efforts to secure investment.
OIKN spokesperson Troy Pantouw reported that IKN will be a city built to global standards, attracting both domestic and international investments to transform it into an economic powerhouse. Thus far, eight groundbreaking stages have been completed, with an estimated Rp58.41 trillion (US$3.6 billion) in investments already secured.
