Jakarta, October 30, 2024 – The Europe Today: President Prabowo Subianto has directed Indonesian ministries to ensure that textile giant Sritex retains its workforce and maintains operations, despite recent bankruptcy challenges. Manpower Minister Yassierli conveyed the President’s concerns following a high-level meeting that included Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto and Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati.
During the meeting, the President stressed the government’s commitment to preventing layoffs at Sritex, which was recently declared bankrupt by the Semarang Commercial District Court. Minister Yassierli stated that the government remains hopeful that Sritex will continue operations while pursuing an appeal.
“There will be no layoffs,” Minister Yassierli affirmed at a press conference, indicating the government’s support for Sritex to sustain production. The Ministry of Manpower has deployed 162 labor inspectors in Central Java to ensure the company upholds employees’ rights and monitors the situation closely.
Additionally, government officials have called on Sritex employees to stay calm, assuring them of planned legal and corporate measures aimed at safeguarding the company. Founded in 1966 in Sukoharjo, Central Java, Sritex is recognized globally for its export products, including military uniforms for various countries.
