Quetta, November 9, 2024 – The Europe Today: A powerful suicide explosion at Quetta’s railway station on Saturday morning has tragically claimed at least 27 lives and left more than 40 others injured. The blast occurred at the station’s booking office just before the arrival of the Jaffer Express, scheduled to depart for Peshawar at 9 a.m., causing significant casualties in the usually crowded area.
Police and emergency response teams swiftly arrived at the scene, while Quetta’s Civil Hospital declared a state of emergency, summoning additional doctors and staff to handle the influx of injured. Officials have reported that many of the wounded are in critical condition, raising concerns that the death toll may rise further.
Quetta Commissioner Hamza Shafqaat confirmed the explosion was a suicide attack, with the bomber reportedly entering the station carrying luggage. He remarked on the challenges of preventing such attacks, emphasizing the difficulties in stopping someone determined to commit a suicide bombing. The Commissioner also made an urgent appeal for blood donations to address a critical blood shortage in hospitals.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations Quetta, Muhammad Baloch, confirmed that law enforcement officers were among the casualties. A banned organization has claimed responsibility for the attack, though further investigation is underway.
