PM Phạm Minh Chính Calls for National Effort to Eradicate Makeshift and Dilapidated Housing in Vietnam

Hanoi, November 10, 2024 – The Europe Today: Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính has emphasized the importance of eradicating makeshift and dilapidated houses across Vietnam, calling it a humanistic and essential initiative requiring collective responsibility, compassion, and a renewed mindset. Chairing the first meeting of the central steering committee on this issue in Hanoi, PM Chính highlighted that achieving the program’s objectives would depend on strong determination and smart strategy.

Describing it as a comprehensive initiative that engages the entire political system, PM Chính stressed the goal of supporting revolution contributors, poor households, and those affected by natural disasters. He expressed appreciation for the active efforts of ministries, localities, organizations, and individuals involved in nationwide campaigns to improve housing conditions.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed the Party and State’s commitment to enhancing social security and poverty reduction, especially for disadvantaged groups. Vietnam aims to eliminate temporary and dilapidated housing nationwide by 2025, five years ahead of schedule, through a combination of state resources and social contributions.

PM Chính urged authorities at all levels to implement the program with clear focus, determination, and effective actions, guided by the motto: “The Party leads, the State manages, the Fatherland Front and mass organizations support, and the people take ownership.” He called for diversifying financial and community support to turn the initiative into a widespread movement for positive change.

The Prime Minister approved the establishment of provincial, district, and commune-level steering committees to ensure coordinated implementation by November 30. He also announced support allocations of VNĐ60 million ($2,300) for new house construction and VNĐ30 million for repairs, tasking relevant agencies to oversee resource distribution.

PM Chính called for effective communication strategies to inspire public support, urging media agencies to promote the program widely and create a socially unified effort to eliminate temporary housing. Despite progress, around 315,000 households nationwide, including revolution contributors and poor families, still face housing challenges, underscoring the program’s urgency.
