Jakarta, November 10, 2024 – The Europe Today: President Prabowo Subianto’s visit to China is set to advance South-South cooperation, focusing on green economy initiatives, climate action, and energy transition. The Institute for Essential Services Reform (IESR) highlighted this opportunity on Saturday, urging Indonesia to deepen collaboration with China in clean energy and low-carbon technology development.
Fabby Tumiwa, Executive Director of IESR, emphasized the need for Indonesia to leverage China’s expertise in renewable energy. “Indonesia can foster technology transfer that supports innovation and efficiency in renewables, along with green investment projects,” Tumiwa stated. He added that China’s capacity in clean energy technology and industrial decarbonization makes it a key partner for Indonesia’s energy goals.
Tumiwa pointed out that joint efforts in renewable energy infrastructure, clean technology manufacturing, and emissions reduction align with President Prabowo’s target of 8% economic growth. He also recommended exploring soft loan support from China for the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) and National Electricity General Plan (RUKN), which would further accelerate Indonesia’s renewable energy projects.
The visit to China marks the first stop in Prabowo’s overseas agenda, which includes the United States, Peru, Brazil, and the United Kingdom.
