Anwar Ibrahim Invites Sheikh Prof Ali Jum’ah to Advance Islamic Scholarly Traditions in Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur, November 12, 2024 – The Europe Today: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has extended an invitation to renowned scholar and former Grand Mufti of Egypt, Sheikh Prof Ali Jum’ah, to visit Malaysia and contribute to the advancement of Turath Islami (Islamic scholarly traditions), a key initiative supported by the Malaysian government.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Anwar shared that the invitation was conveyed during a meeting with Sheikh Ali, who currently serves as the Head of the Religious and Endowment Committee in the Egyptian Parliament. The meeting took place shortly after Anwar’s arrival from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where he attended the Arab-Islamic Extraordinary Summit.

Anwar emphasized that the invitation aligns with the ongoing Sama’ Hadis Bukhari programme being held in Putrajaya. He explained that the focus of their discussion was on enhancing the understanding and practice of Islam in Malaysia, particularly through the study of Turath and the translation of important Islamic scholarly works for public access.

The Prime Minister also highlighted that this effort is in line with the goals of Malaysia’s Madani government to further enrich the practice of Islam in the country. Anwar’s recent travels to Riyadh and Cairo are part of his broader diplomatic engagements, with his visit to Riyadh underscoring Malaysia’s stance on the ongoing conflict in Palestine and Lebanon, and his continuing visit to Egypt focused on strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations.
