China Pavilion Inaugurated at COP29 in Baku, Highlighting Commitment to Climate Leadership and Cooperation

Baku, November 12, 2024 – The Europe Today: The China Pavilion was officially launched at the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, currently taking place in Baku, Azerbaijan from November 11 to 22. This pavilion, a prominent feature of COP29, will host 10 themed days showcasing various activities and side events aimed at addressing global climate issues.

During a side meeting marking the pavilion’s opening, Zhao Yingmin, head of the Chinese delegation and vice minister of China’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment, emphasized China’s evolving role as a vital participant, contributor, and leader in global efforts to build a sustainable ecological civilization. “China is willing to work with the international community to strengthen political mutual trust, practice multilateralism, enhance global cooperation, and build a prosperous, clean, and beautiful world,” Zhao stated.

Liu Zhenmin, China’s special envoy for climate change, highlighted that climate change mitigation remains a key national strategy for China, with low-carbon development being a crucial component in building a “beautiful China.” Liu noted China’s successes in promoting green and low-carbon initiatives, which have earned broad international praise.

Liu further expressed hope that COP29 would foster greater global confidence in collective climate action and stressed adherence to the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities. He called on developed nations to fulfill their financial commitments to help developing countries strengthen their capabilities in combating climate change.

China reaffirmed its commitment to multilateralism, climate justice, market-driven solutions, and trade freedom while emphasizing the need for fair and inclusive climate governance. By fostering international collaboration, China aims to contribute to a successful COP29, providing greater stability and certainty in the realm of global climate action.
