Guangzhou, November 12, 2024 – The Europe Today: Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory letter to Sun Yat-sen University on the occasion of its centennial anniversary, highlighting the university’s achievements and its critical role in advancing Chinese modernization. The letter was read out during a commemorative event held in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, where Xi extended his well wishes to the faculty, students, and alumni both at home and abroad.
In his letter, Xi urged the university to align its development with China’s national strategies, particularly the needs of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. He called for efforts to transform Sun Yat-sen University into a world-class institution with Chinese characteristics, emphasizing its contribution to the country’s modernization and development.
Huang Kunming, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Secretary of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee, also addressed the gathering. He pledged full support from the Guangdong provincial government to Sun Yat-sen University as it continues to make significant contributions to education and society.
Founded in 1924, Sun Yat-sen University was named after Sun Yat-sen, the revolutionary leader who played a pivotal role in overthrowing China’s feudal monarchy during the 1911 Revolution. The university has since educated over 800,000 professionals across various fields, marking a century of academic excellence and service to the nation.
