Baku, November 14, 2024 – The Europe Today: Yesterday, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev held discussions with Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), during her visit to COP29. President Aliyev extended his gratitude to Georgieva for her participation in the high-profile climate conference hosted by Azerbaijan.
President Aliyev underscored the positive state of Azerbaijan’s cooperation with the IMF, noting that their partnership has focused primarily on economic and financial policy consultations. He emphasized the significance of maintaining strong ties with the IMF, particularly in light of Azerbaijan’s COP29 Presidency, which aims to rally financial support for developing nations grappling with climate-related challenges.
Georgieva expressed her appreciation for the invitation and commended Azerbaijan for the exceptional organization of COP29. She voiced optimism about the conference’s success and recognized the potential for deepening financial collaboration between Azerbaijan and the IMF. Georgieva also invited Azerbaijan to engage in IMF initiatives designed to assist developing countries in tackling climate change.
