Uzbekistan and Pakistan Strengthen Logistics Cooperation to Boost Trade

Islamabad, November 15, 2024 – The Europe Today: In a significant move to enhance bilateral cooperation, H.E. Alisher Tukhtaev at the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Pakistan hosted a strategic meeting with the leadership of Pakistan’s National Logistics Corporation (NLC). The discussions aimed to align the logistics frameworks of both nations, advancing shared strategic goals and fostering economic growth.

As Pakistan’s premier transport and logistics company, NLC expressed strong interest in supporting Uzbekistan’s vision of becoming a regional logistics hub. Farrukh Shahzad, Director of NLC, praised Uzbekistan’s economic reforms and regional integration initiatives under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. He reiterated NLC’s commitment to increasing bilateral trade turnover to $1 billion and strengthening trade corridors linking Uzbekistan with Pakistan, Central Asia, Russia, Europe, and China.

Key achievements of the meeting included agreements between NLC and Uzbekistan Railways JSC to enhance freight transportation systems. Discussions also covered proposals to simplify visa processes for Pakistani drivers and streamline border control procedures, aiming to improve trade efficiency. Plans to expand storage facilities in Tashkent and establish a logistics center in Termez were also highlighted, marking significant steps toward facilitating long-distance exports and imports.

These initiatives aim to position Uzbekistan as a pivotal international logistics hub, enhancing regional connectivity and supporting robust trade and economic partnerships between Uzbekistan and Pakistan.
