Beijing, December 3, 2024 – The Europe Today: China has called on Japan to develop a balanced and objective perspective on China and work collaboratively to ensure the sustained and steady growth of bilateral relations, according to Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian. Lin made the remarks on Monday while responding to questions about Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba’s recent comments on China-Japan relations.
Addressing the opening ceremony of the extraordinary session of the Diet, Ishiba recounted his discussion with Chinese President Xi Jinping during the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Lima, Peru, in mid-November. Acknowledging the challenges and differences between the two nations, Ishiba emphasized the importance of cooperation where possible. He affirmed that “China’s stable development benefits the entire region” and reiterated Japan’s commitment to fostering “constructive and stable ties” and promoting strategic relations based on mutual benefit.
A Shared Vision for Cooperation
Lin highlighted that a stable and positive China-Japan relationship aligns with the fundamental interests of the peoples of both nations. He emphasized the need for Japan to approach China with historical awareness and forward-looking policies, rooted in the principles outlined in the four political documents governing China-Japan relations.
These documents underscore that the two nations should view each other as “cooperative partners rather than threats.” Lin urged Japan to ensure its policies reflect this framework, while constructively managing differences and disputes to deepen practical cooperation across various fields.
Building on Leadership Consensus
Lin called on both countries to implement the common understandings reached during high-level discussions, particularly between President Xi and Prime Minister Ishiba, to advance bilateral relations. He reiterated China’s hope for constructive dialogue at all levels to support shared regional stability and prosperity.
“A sustained, sound, and stable China-Japan relationship is in the fundamental interest of both Chinese and Japanese peoples,” Lin stated.
The remarks reflect China’s ongoing commitment to fostering strong, cooperative ties with Japan while addressing challenges in the bilateral relationship through dialogue and mutual respect.
